Old fashioned Christmas

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL WHO READ THIS AND THANK YOU FOR DROPPING BY. MAY YOU BE BLESSED THIS WEEK.

Had a great night yesterday. We’d been invited to a friends for a Christmas party, but we weren’t sure what to expect when she told us to bring our son’s trombone.  On the way there we realised we didn’t even know if we would know any other guests…and so a little nervously we tapped on the front door, which burst into ‘jingle bells’ from a reindeer toy hanging from the knocker, making us all jump.

We needn’t have worried, a few of their family and other people from church were already sipping mulled wine as we were warmly greeted and taken care of.

The best bit of the evening was the entertainment.  Think back to wartime Britain when people had no TV and sang around the fire…at one point it even felt a bit like Downton, with everyone singing around the piano in the hall!

So, a poem about endless turkey, a stand up comedy routine, a circus acrobat trick, an ipad dance routine (well a bit of technology was slipped in) and numerous talented children playing piano, trombone, guitar and singing made our night one to remember.

We finished the night with an hilarious rendition of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” sung very loudly before it reluctantly was time to go.

This was the first thing to make me feel Christmassy. It felt like being a child again, reminding me of Christmasses back then when we played charades, sang and laughed together, rather than sitting in spearate rooms tapping away on a computer, games console or watching different tv programmes on separate tvs.

Thanks dear friends…and I promise that if you invite us again next year I will do a ‘turn’ next time.  Now what could I do…?
